Abstract:

Black is a short documentary talking the question, “what does it mean to grow up as a black male in today’s society?” Throughout the course of the documentary you get to witness several interviews talking about their understanding of the question and current events. All this culminates to the creator of documentary thoughts on the matter and what that means moving forward.

Responsibilities:

The creation of this documentary required me to feel all roles of a filmmaker and make creative decision in the moment of shooting. I began this film by writing and story-boarding a narrative that I could reflect back on during moments of decision making. During the course of editing, distinct aesthetic came into creation, clashing black & white look with a more modern look culminating to white background with multiple skin tones in harmony with one another.
